This week, the ladies of Mayopan discovered what reality TV has learned 20 years ago: People enjoy watching others put themselves in dangerous situations for no reason. Whether it’s Bear Grylls becoming a meme for drinking his own urine or all those weirdos naked and scared, people love to see others fighting and scavenging as hell. Unfortunately, our YoutubeThe heroine misses the part where these shows have hordes of people working off-camera to make sure the survivalists on-camera don’t die.
What follows is a pretty good comedy show. There’s a solid source of comedic conflict between Live trying to find the right shots for their film and everyone else trying to get out of trouble through vampires. There are also some nice little clips YoutubeFocusing on comedy, for example, a camera was set up to film her “struggle” to carry driftwood. It’s a good reminder that even the most realistic-looking videos on the Internet are at least a little staged, even if their protagonists aren’t vampires. The show’s facial game is on point as always, and congratulations to Masaki for giving us another high-quality entry into the “post it through it” reaction image genre.
That’s all well and good, but unfortunately the more dramatic aspects of the episode didn’t work for me. I like this idea – Live tries its best to make a proper video to impress Masaki, fails, but she learns that her efforts were not in vain and her rewards are still there. It just feels a little off in execution. It would be different if Live herself wanted to make videos to please Masaki, but here she’s directly ordering her to do so or miss out on Masaki’s human juices. Masaki has been willing to pull this card to get help from Live, but something feels wrong here also Being mean, especially when the scheduling issues were never Live’s fault in the first place. If the show was purely for a snarky resolution, or if Live was expressing some anger on her own behalf, then this would still work, but there’s clearly a sentimental angle here, and even if Masaki does a good job at the end, that angle doesn’t Will fall to the ground.
Maybe it will work better later in the season when we have more time to develop these characters and their relationships. We’re not even halfway there yet, so there’s still plenty of room for Live to become more confident, or for Masaki to be more considerate of her bloodlust Youtube slave. Now, it wasn’t as satisfying as I thought it would be, and it took the shine off an otherwise solid episode.
