When we think of the biggest movie franchises, we usually think of Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars, DC, James Bond, etc.—mainstream pop culture staples around the world, spanning generations. This is an attribute that should be present in a “Fast and Furious” movie. Surprisingly, the Furious franchise is the sixth-largest film franchise of all time in terms of global box office revenue, and there’s at least one more movie on the way.
It’s surprising because no one could have imagined we would get here so early on. The first four films in the series grossed nearly $1 billion at the global box office. That’s a decent total considering all of these movies have budgets under $100 million, but there’s not much indication of what’s coming next: starting with Furious 5 and including Hobbs & Shaw of spin-offs, we’ve already received seven Furious and Furious movies. It’s a completely unique record for a series that isn’t based on any existing beloved IP – it’s the extremely rare blockbuster franchise that’s so popular on its own merits.
We’ve now taken an in-depth look at 11 movies, including spin-offs starring The Rock and Jason Statham, video games, a Netflix animated series, and more. Nonetheless, the final film in the main series is expected to be released in 2026. So you’ve got plenty of time before then to re-watch the entire epic automotive saga – and you absolutely should, because this series is one of a kind.
