With the launch of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, a whole new generation of players will be able to experience official versions of some of Capcom’s most popular games. Among them is Marvel vs Capcom 2, which has a variety of benefits including a small cast of original characters.
These include SonSon, the granddaughter of Capcom’s classic character of the same name, pirate Ruby Rose, and the beloved humanoid cactus Amingo. These characters had their own fanbases during the heyday of Marvel vs Capcom 2, but according to producer Shuhei Matsu, their return isn’t out of the question.

“Yes, it’s always possible,” Matsumoto said through a translator at Evo 2024. Being able to become familiar with characters that only appear in these fighting series, if enough people are interested in these characters, then who knows if there is a chance that they will appear in Street Fighter 6 or other fighting games. A big reason for this is that it allows people to learn more about the IP and the series, which creates more content for us.
So the door is open, which is great, but does that mean you should expect Amingo to appear in the next Street Fighter 6 Season Pass? It might be worth holding on to your opium for now. Capcom, like many other companies, has a history of making statements like this. No one – neither fans nor Capcom itself – said “I’m sorry, Armingo is dead forever.”
Yoshinori Ono once infamously said that if Darkwalker fans wanted to see more from the series, they should buy Darkwalker: Resurrection in bulk. Darkwalker fans obviously tried their best, but the series has been completely dead since then (despite Ono’s hopes of making a new series). “You never know what the future holds,” Capcom manager Matt Dahlgren told Gamespot when asked if there would be more Darkstalkers games following the poor sales of Darkstalkers Ressurection. What will happen?” It’s not a no…but it’s a no.
So Armingo will definitely be back, but people will have to truly express their love with their physical voices, their fingers on their online keyboards, and their wallets. What we like is that the collection includes several games that fighting game die-hards will love – including Marvel vs Capcom 2. So if any series does a good job of forcing the Ruby Rose gears to turn internally, it’s this one. Fingers crossed, friends.
Do you think it’s possible we’ll see the original characters return for Marvel vs Capcom 2, or have they just disappeared without a trace? Let us know below!
