It was official on Monday that House of the Dragon will be wrapping up its fourth season. During a press conference, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that the “Game of Thrones” prequels will air for two more seasons, concluding with a fourth season. The third season is currently being written and is expected to begin production in early 2025.
House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal explains the decision to postpone Battle of the Gum until next season. He mentioned that while fans may want annual releases, the show’s complexity requires careful and detailed production, similar to producing multiple feature films per season. Condal hinted that if previous events like Rook Break and Red Sow are any indication, the upcoming Gusset Fight will be a big and impressive moment.
Condal also touched on the interesting appearance of Otto Hightower (played by Rhys Ifans) in the season two finale, where he appeared to be imprisoned, a departure from the events of Blood & Fire. While he didn’t reveal specific details about Otto’s situation, he assured that Otto’s story is not over yet and will continue to unfold in season three.
