Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, one of the best Pokémon spin-offs, is coming to Nintendo Switch Online.
No, you didn’t miss the Nintendo Direct, but developer Red and White did announce a new game coming to its Nintendo Switch Online+ expansion this week, and it happens to be fan-favorite Pokemon Mystery Underground City: Red Rescue Team. This spin-off of the classic monster-catching series lets you play as a Pokémon throughout the game, and you don’t have to wait long to try out the first entry, as it’s coming to Switch Online next week, August 9. Note that only Red Rescue Team is available on Switch.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was released on the Game Boy Advance back in 2005 (2006 for players in the US and EU), but its counterpart Blue Rescue Team was also released Released on Nintendo DS on the same day. As it stands, Nintendo hasn’t made any kind of DS game for the Virtual Console or Switch Online series, which means the best versions of both games are unplayable unless you own an original copy of the game, or happen to be on a Wii U’s Virtual Console (as a reminder, you can no longer purchase digital games on it since the console’s eShop is closed).

Blue Rescue Team isn’t all that different from Red Rescue Team, but it’s better in a few key areas: the second screen makes it easier to track your map, as well as the status of your teammates, and the music and The sound design is also better because it’s a better console. Still, the Mystery Dungeon spin-off is one of the best Pokémon titles, so there’s certainly nothing to feel bad about now that you can play the original game on Switch.
