Donald Trump’s media company, Trump Media & Technology Group, announced on Friday plans to launch a new video streaming service based on Truth Social. It’s unclear what kind of content might appear, how much it might cost, or even when it might launch, but we know one thing for sure: Your most annoying, Trump-supporting uncle is going to love it.
In true Orwellian fashion, the streaming service will be called Truth+ and will arrive during a “phased rollout,” according to a press release posted online. The release mentions “beta testing,” but again doesn’t give an actual timeline for when users will be able to watch. But once testing is complete, it looks like the primary way to view Truth+ content will be through the Truth Social website and Android and iOS apps.
“By clicking on the icon, users will be able to access streaming content as a standalone channel or separate picture-in-picture (“PiP”) window while scrolling across the Truth Social platform,” the company said in its press release. “iOS users will need to update their Truth Social app to access streaming media. Android or web users do not need to update or download.
The press release also explains that initial content will include news, reviews, weather, lifestyle and entertainment content, but does not explain how this content will be presented. Are we talking about A-list celebrities like Kevin Sorbo discussing how wokeism can cause your adult children to stop talking to you? Or do they think teen hosts harping on homework is a communist plot to destroy America? They can go in a lot of different directions with this.
Subsequent phases of the Truth+ rollout will apparently include “Christian content and family-friendly content,” according to a press release. But given all the blasphemous garbage Trump has churned out, that could mean a lot of things. After all, this is a guy selling a public domain Bible for $60.
It may help that Devin Nunes, the former California congressman who now heads Trump Media, is trying to sell the idea of Truth+ as a home for free speech and “great TV content.” Revealing how out of touch he is with online culture. To be clear, there’s no indication that Truth+ will have “television content,” but rather films made specifically for the network.
“First and foremost, we created Truth Social to provide a safe haven for free speech online,” Nunes said in a press release. “Now we’re building a reliable home for great TV content that’s been ignored by the big players or at risk of cancellation, and we’re securing our own technology stack and hardware infrastructure to make our new CDN irreversible. I look forward to rolling out many enhancements and adding exciting new content to the platform in the near future.
But that’s not all. Phase three is even more ambitious, according to the release.
“The next phase is expected to be the launch of a streaming app integrated with the Truth Social platform, which will offer enhanced features including an interactive 14-day e-guide, instant tracking of any show aired in the past seven days, online DVR, video on demand and more,” the release said.
Oddly, the press release was issued in the early hours of Friday morning, but Trump himself has yet to mention anything about Truth+ on his Truth Social account. This is understandable, as he is very keen on spreading racist garbage and various conspiracy theories about Kamala Harris.
The race is tight according to polls, with Harris gaining momentum after taking over the Democratic seat from Biden less than two weeks ago. FiveThirtyEight’s national polling average currently shows Harris leading at 45%, Trump at 43.6% and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 5.6%. But our elections are not decided by popular vote. Although Harris is leading in many battleground states, according to the latest polls, she needs to keep that momentum going over the next three months. Apparently every decent American prays for this.
