Have you heard of Texas Hold’em Poker? Well, that’s a throwaway from Texas.
Fox announced today that “9-1-1: Lone Star” will come to an end after five seasons.
The news comes just weeks ahead of the September 23 premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star’s fifth season.
Fox confirmed the cancellation in a statement today, but it’s not a complete shock.
Lone Star went off the air last year due to a double strike by writers and actors.
Rumors have been circulating for months that the 9-1-1 spinoff will end with its fifth season.
But none of that eases the pain for Lone Star’s loyal fans, who have been excited about the adventures of Austin’s brave first responders since the show premiered in 2020.
Fox Network President Michael Thorn said in a statement:
“Fans have been drawn to the heroic and heartwarming stories of the heroes and heroines of Austin 126 since the beginning, so a huge thank you to one of the greatest creative teams in television – Ryan Murphy, Brad Farr Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear – created one of the most action-packed television series in the world.
“Now, in the show’s final season, we’re ready to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathtaking rescues, insurmountable odds, and relatable personal struggles, thanks to the show’s iconic director, Rob Lowe. Lowe leads an unrivaled cast of stars.
So at least fans can rest assured that the show will get the send-off it deserves.
The fifth and final season of Lone Star should be filled with drama, as there are still a lot of questions for the writers to answer.
For example, after news broke that actress Sierra McClane was leaving Lone Star , fans wondered how the show would write off Grace Ryder.
Of course, Lone Star’s predecessor “9-1-1” was picked up by ABC after being canceled by Fox in 2023.
The show was a huge success on the Alphabet Network, so there was always hope that executives would revive Lone Star as well.
But with every network’s production budgets shrinking and the entire industry shrinking, such a move seems unlikely at this point.
TV fans, what do you think? Do you hope for a miracle, or are you content to watch a lone star sail off into the sunset?
