Borderlands and civilization Publisher 2K Games has quietly done something really cool and good: the company no longer requires the 2K PC launcher from all of its games, and has scrapped the software entirely.
For years, Steam (Valve’s digital PC store) was the publisher and marketplace for virtually all PC games. But starting around 2019, publishers like EA, 2K, Ubisoft, and Bethesda are all starting to lock their games behind separate (and annoying) launchers. So you buy a game on Steam, only to be forced to download and use a separate launcher for that game, which launches every time you try to play the game through Steam. Some companies just stopped releasing games on Steam completely to avoid paying Valve a commission on each sale. But more and more publishers are finally changing course on all this nonsense, 2K Games is the latest.
November 18, 2K Games quietly begins to sunset Its PC game launcher and completely removes it from all games.
With this change, BioShock Remastered, BioShock 2 Remastered, BioShock Infinite, Quarry, and Marvel’s Midnight Sun Now, everything will launch directly into the game via Steam, with no nonsense steps in between. No more updating launchers or linking accounts or anything else. You click play bioshock In Steam, that’s it.
Some games, such as remakes mafia Trilogy, more work needed to clean up 2K Games launcher. this Borderlands Publisher updated Support page for each game Information about what the user needs to do.
Additionally, the publisher launched an update on Steam on November 25 that completely removed the 2K Games launcher, replacing the folder containing all files and data on the PC with a single text file called “2kLauncherRemoved.txt.” The publisher states that you can also safely delete the archive.
2K has a separate guide For those who want to make sure that all details of the launcher are completely gone from their computer.
Oh, sorry for those of you who like the 2K Games Launcher. The publisher confirmed in an FAQ that it has no plans to continue supporting it, but 2K does “thank you for your interest.”
