20 Best Vampire Movies for Your Vampire Halloween Season
Vampire movies suck. Every one of them. Silly puns aside, vampires are almost ubiquitous in supernatural lore around the world, and 1922’s Nosferatu is one of the earliest horror films, telling the story of the terrifying Count Orlok. Since then, hundreds of vampire movies have been released around the world, spanning not only horror but other genres as well.
Vampires are a fascinating idea for many reasons. They live forever in a decadent Gothic castle. They drink blood, which represents human life force. They can transform into bats, wolves, and mist. They control the undead and hypnotize the living. Sometimes they get into really disgusting sword fights. Sometimes they bring about the end of the world. They can be the eldest of the old, as in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, or they can appear as children, as in Let the Right One In. They can be hunters or prey. They can be cool like Blade, or they can be a bunch of goofballs like the protagonists of What We Do in the Shadows.
Since vampires and vampire-like creatures come from all over the world, we also tried to bring in those influences, including vampire movies from Japan, Korea, China, Germany, Sweden, and more, as well as many highly anticipated American movies. They also range from the 1922 film above all the way up to the 2020s—pretty much the entire history of film.
